I guess the The question is : why does the leaves detach when we shake the tree? It is because of inertia of rest. The tree is at rest and when we shake it suddenly the leaves fall due to inertia.
Hope it helps :)

Initially both the tree & the leaves hanging to its branches are in a state of rest.
When the branches of the tree are shaken, it is set into motion while the leaves remain in the state of rest due to inertia of rest.
Thus, the leaves get detached from the branches & fall down due to the pull of gravity.
