Why lemon and tamarind is used for leanning the copper pots or vessels

The copper vessels are tarnished due to the formation of copperoxide due to oxidation of the metal. The lemon or tamarind juice contains citric or tartaric acid which reacts with the basic oxide and the neutralization reaction takes place. Due to neutralization, the vessels are cleaned.
