Why lemon and tamarind is used for leanning the copper pots or vessel

Lemon and tamarind contain acids . Acid react with metals or metal oxides . So , when the acid of lemon and tamarind reacts with copper or other metal , the oxide layer of the metal reacts with the acid . As a result the vessel became clean .
