From the period of Lichchhavi dynasty, we have certain proofs that they ruled this country as well as India. In their regime, the King’s commands were considered absolute law and no one was to defy them. Serious punishment was given to the offenders. Lichchhavis ruled Nepal for about 630 years (603 as per some historians) after defeating Soma dynasty. They were the rulers of Vaishali kingdom in Muzzafarpur, Champaron and Dharbhangaa of Northern Bihar, India before their powers and authority were replaced by Magadh and Kushana dynasty rulers. According to the inscription of Jayadev-II, Supushpa was the founder of this dynasty and Jayadev-I was the very first King of this dynasty to rule Nepal. Various other Kings like Vrishadev, Bhaskar verma, Basanta Dev, Mandev(I-IV), Shiva Dev, Amshuverma, etc. ruled Nepal during this dynasty. Jayakama Dev was the last King of this dynasty. This period is often known as the “Golden Age/ Period ” of Nepal’s history. Various reasons are attributed for this period for being called as the golden age.
