In solid alot of particles are tightly closed packed with each other so it does not have free space for ray of light to travel in the solud...

A light beam doesn't travel through a solid object because it needs space to travel through, which is provided by the liquids and gases, A solid doesn't has much space between it's particles, So, A light beam doesn't travel through a solid.
