why light bends when it goes from one medium to another medium

it bends in the second medium because there is a change in the optical density when it enters the second medium

hence if it travels from a rarer to a denser medium it bends towards the normal and if a ray of light travels from a denser to rarer medium it bends away from the normal

Bending of light from going one medium to another medium is known as REFRACTION.
As there is difference in density in different medium.
Hence light bends towards the normal if it is travelling from rarer to denser medium and vice versa...
