Light is one of the most vital and essential abiotic ecological factor without which no life can exist. On light depends the photosynthesis or synthesis of food by green plants which in turn support all animals and most microbial life on the earth. Light also influences the daily and seasonal activity patterns of plants and animals. It is a non-lethal limiting factor, both at the maxi­mum and minimum levels.
