Light travels as a wave. But unlike sound waves or water waves, it does not need any matter or material to carry its energy along. This means thatlight can travel through a vacuum—a completely airless space.

hence it is called as a traveller.

hey mate here is your answer

Light travels in the straight line because it does not generally interact with the medium and wherever it interacts it does change its path like when it is entering a different medium with different permeability and permittivity(denser or rarer). This interaction and bending of light is called refraction.

In a dusty atmosphere it is sometimes possible to see light travelling and it does appear to be moving in a straight line. The fact that light travels can be demonstrated by putting an object in its path. ... As light does appear to travel in straight lines then light is usually modelled as straight lines in drawings.
