why light side is provided at the lower side of belt drive

Answer:

Generally , the lower side is kept " Higher side " and upper side is kept as " Lower side " with the belt drives ha ing small driving pulley and big driven pulley .....Power transmission in belt drive depends on angle of lap and frictional grip between belt and pulley.
