why light travells faster than sound

light = lights is made of photons. those little fellas have no weight at travel at maximum speed of the universe.
sound = Sound waves can only travel as waves of Pressure in a medium

Why does light travel faster tha sound..? That is because light is made of photons ( Light Particles )..which have negligible mass. The light travel much quicker as compared to sound waves which travel in the form of Longitudinal and Transverse waves. Light if u take, does not require any medium for propagation, while sound takes air for propagation. 

Let's take a look on the way the waves of both work.

1) Sound Waves have a 'must' existence of a medium; as they move through this medium, they lead to the formation of 'high' and 'low' presure areas, which goes into our eardrum making us hear a 'sound'.

2) Light is made from photons (as i have told earlier), which have wave-particle properties(quantum stuff) and doesn’t need a medium (like sound) in order to propagate (it reaches maximum speed in vacuum); light moves based on these photons, which are incredibly fast.

The sound waves are binded with the medium... so they only go upto a specific speed. But as Light wavees doesn't require a medium for it's propagation, it travels much faster...
