Why liquid is used to operate brakes of car

Hello,
liquid brakes are used in cars because a small force from the driver on a produces a greater force on all 4 wheels(brakes).
so it becomes easier to brake.
Now if gases were used then all the energy would be used to compress the gas which would be ineffective for braking system .
And we cannot use a mechanical brake to stop a car because it would be very difficult and would require a large force.
(it would be hard to stop all the four wheels of a car by using mechanical brakes).
Hope that helps.
