Why lithium react with oxygen to form oxide but not peroxide?

When Lithium react with oxygen to form oxide but not peroxide because Lithium is very reactive.

So, it catches fire easily and become oxide.

Therefore, Lithium react with oxygen to form oxide not peroxide.

The atomic size of lithium is very small therefore it can form bond with one oxygen atom.as the size of atom increases,its holding capacity also increases.
