hi,

here is your answer,

Lithium shows anomalous behavior and departs from the general group trend. This is mainly because of its small size. The polarizing power [ionic charge/(ionic radius)2]of lithium ion is the highest of all the alkali metal ions and is close to that of the magnesium ion.

✒ Why lithium shows anomalous nature ?

\bold{\Huge\red{\boxed{{{Answer}}}}}

✏ Lithium show anomalous behaviour due to the following reasons :-

1. Extremely small size of lithium atom and its ion.

2. Greater polarizing power of lithium ion (Li+) due to its small size which results in covalent character in its compounds.

3. Least electropositive character and highest ionization enthalpy as compared to other alkali metals.

✒ What is Anomalous Nature ?

  • Anomalous means differing from the norm for a given situation, psychologically speaking that is.
  • Anomalous behavior would be behavior that is unusual for the circumstances.
  • Of course there are many different degrees of what is considered to be normal and anomalous behavior.
  • There are many behaviors that fall within the range of what is considered to be normal.
