why Lithium with atomic number 3 and potassium number 9 are placed in group one?

This is because Lithium and potassium have same physical and chemical properties, valency, outermost orbits' electronic configuration(ns1) and are called alkali metals.

Bcz electronic configuration of lithium is 2,1 and that of potassium is 2,7. Both have valency=1 . Even both of them are alkali metals with same chemical properties
