It is because here there is sharing of electrons.
For example take two sisters
then you brought only one gift then if two sisters fight for that then one who is strong will win means gaining of electrons in chemistry and the one who is weak will lose means losing of electrons.
If the two sisters instead of fighting shares one gift with each other and play that's is what covalent bonding is
