why lotus roots short and fibrous

Lotus roots are short and fibrous as they are firstly in water so they don't need a well developed root system so even if they have short roots it won't affect their root system as they will get enough water..
it is advantage for lotus plants that if the roots are short and I not well developed then also they'll get water that also in proper amount..
