The state increased the taxes and the people were forced to pay these taxes to meet the expenses required for maintaining court, army, government universities and offices.

• The King and the Queen lived luxurious and royal life; to meet these expenses also they demanded various direct and indirect taxes from the people.

• The treasury of the state becomes empty due to the various expenses as the state was facing financial problems due to the frequent wars so they imposed taxes to meet the expenses of the royal treasury.

• Clergy and the nobles enjoyed certain privileges which resulted in demanding taxes from the third estate. The taxes were only paid by the third estate which includes a big businessman, courts, lawyers, peasants and artisan and small peasants, landless labourers and servants, etc.

• Also, the Peasants paid taxes to the Church called Tithes. It included direct tax called Taille and other indirect tax which were imposed on the product of consumption like salt and tobacco.

This way the monarchical government demanded taxes from the people in one or the other way.
