why lycopene is red in colour? .....plz answer

AS THE TOMATO RIPENS , IT'S COLOUR STARTS TO CHANGE FROM GREEN TO YELLOW AND THEN EVENTUALLY TO RED .THIS IS DUE TO THE BREAKDOWN OF CHLOROPHYLL, WHICH IS TURNS SYNTHESISES A RED CAROTENOID , LYCOPENE IS ALSO THE DOMINANT COLOUR IN WATERMELONS
