They are filled with digestive enzymes. When animal cells take in food, these enzymes help in digesting that food. These enzymes also digest any kind of worn out cell organelles or foreign materials like bacteria or viruses that enter the cell. If accidently their enzymes burst then the eat their own enzymes ... Hence, lysosomes are called suicide bags of the cell.
