They are called so because they contain special enzymes which are capable of destroying the cell. It helps in breakdown of several substances within the cell. But at times they burst and secrete the enzyme (digestive enzymes) in such a concentration that the cell itself starts decomposing. Therefore lesions can be the reason for the seal destruction if cells. Hence they are called suicidal bags of cells.

why lysosomes called as the suicidal bags?
- If the cell is damaged, the lysosomes undergo autolysis and burst open.
- This results in the release of those hydrolytic enzymes.
- The released enzymes then digest their own cell and ultimately the cell dies.
Hence, they are called as suicidal bags of the cells.
