why magnetic field lines are closed curves

It is relatively easy to see the shape of a magnetic field if you have a magnet, a piece of paper, and some iron or steel filings. Place the paper over the magnet and then sprinkle the filings onto it and they will be drawn to the lines of the magnetic field
