why magnification is take negative for real image and positive for virtual imagee

because when real image is formed that is inverted ,so by sign conventions it is taken negative ......

virtual image u know its errect so magnification is positive

A real is always inverted

Whereas a virtual image is always erect/upright.

Inverted image means it will form below the principal axis.

The value below the principle axis is always negative

Real image means it will form above the principle axis.

The value above the principle axis is always positive.

SO REAL IMAGE'S VALUE IS POSITIVE AND VIRTUAL IMAGE 'S VALUE IS ALWAYS NEGATIVE.
