Maharana Pratap is known as the king without a capital as Akabar attacked Chittorgarh and razed it to the ground
1. Rana sangha lost the battle of khanwa against babur in 1527.
2. many rajput rulers were wooed by the mughals; mewar alone held out.
3. In 1567 emperor akabar decided to teach it a lesson; he attacked chittorgarh, the capital of mewar, and razed it to the ground.
4. five yrs later maharana pratap (reigned 1572-97) came to rule mewar as 'a king without capital'
