why male gamete and female gamete are not diploid

It they are diploid then when they fuse ( fertilize ) they would be doubled every time which causes imbalance .

So that when they fuse , the offspring has diploid set of chromosomes . If they would have been diploid then the chromosome number in the offspring would have been double the normal .
