If you look at the Indian map, the land mass juts into the ocean in the form of a peninsula. Bangalore is located at a unique place in this peninsula -- it is almost equidistant from both shores and not too far away from either of them (~300 kms, either way).
And the way India is situated w.r.t. the equator, there are two major monsoons that hit our coasts. The south-west monsoon hits around June-July, while the south-east monsoon hits around Sep-Oct.
In June-July, the western coast is inundated with rain, while the eastern coast is largely dry and scorching. But Bangalore receives the tip of the monsoon, bringing light showers and occasional thunderstorms. The same is true during Sep-Oct. At this time, the eastern coast is getting plummeted, while the western coast is largely dry. And the sun making its journey southwards from the tropic of cancer, ensures that the dry parts are scorching hot. And Bangalore once again gets only the tip of this monsoon, keeping the weather cool and breezy.
The elevation is definitely a factor for cooler climates -- Bangalore being at a height of almost 3000ft. above sea level. But, I think the location is a more important factor for the consistency in the weather. Other areas of the world that are about ~3000ft MSL does not have such a consistent weather like Bangalore.
