why mangalore receives 280 cm, bangalore receives 50 cm, and chennai receives 40 cm of rainfall

Because the Ground water level and the factors responsible for rainfall is not depleted in Mangaluru as much as Bangalore.
Though sky scrappers are raising one by one silently the trees are not shedded off as much as in Bangalore
And Western Ghats is the reason which has dense forest which in turn provides rainfall
Mangalore is not as much concreted as Bangalore
Rainwater harvesting may have tiny contribution
