Why Manganese has lower Melting and boiling point?

Manganese has 5 free electrons in its d orbital so it take place more in metallic bonding as compared to other elements in its neighborhood (left and right in periodic table) who have 4 free electrons in their d orbital. More metallic bonding means more energy requires in breaking bond and more melting point.

Noorzarah: Is it because it is half filled or something?
rohan25novfeb: come on personal plz
Noorzarah: What??
rohan25novfeb: send me message on personal
rohan25novfeb: cant chat here
Noorzarah: You cleared my question so thanks

Manganese has lower Melting and boiling point ;

# Because of the following reasons :--

  • With decrease in unpaired or vacant electrons or orbitals, Melting and Boiling point also decreases .

  • Thus, there is weak mettalic bonding further due to less unpaired electrons .

  • It reduces Enthalpy of Atomization value .
