Manganin foil and wire use in the manufacture of resostors, particularly ammeter shunts, because of its particilarlly zero temperature coeffient of resistance value and long term stability. Several manganin resistor served as the legal stamdard of the ohm in the United State from 1901 to 1990.

Because of there low value of temperature coefficient of resistance, i.e., the value of resistamce doesn't change much with increase in temperature. It has very high value of resistivity.
