Sericulture refers to the rearing of silk by cultivating silkworms. However, today silk rearing has been easier by artificial means.

Many animal activists do not support sericulture because it leads to death of millions of silk worms just to produce certain amount of silk.

Silkworms starts producing silk in heir cocoon and in order to take this silk out, these cocoons have to die.
