However once in 1686-1687 Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb annexed Golconda, it became unviable for the European companies to trade here who now looked for alternatives. As Bombay, Calcutta, and Madras started developing in the eighteenth century, Masulipatnam lost its business, prosperity and importance.
