Why matkahas small pores on it ?

the earthen pot is made up of clay which has small pores on it. when the pot is filled with water the water seeps through these fine pores and evaporates by taking the energy from the surroundings. to regain the energy the surroundings absorb energy from the pot and makes the water in the pot cooler
