Why melting point of a substance is used for checking the purity of a substance?

As , the addition of impurity also changes the melting and boiling point of the substances.

So , melting point can be used as an indicator to indicate the forgien impurities . That's why melting point is used for checking the purity of water.

→ Lesser the amount of impurity , Greater will be the purity of substance and , greater will be the correction of it's value of melting point nearly equal to the original melting point of original / pure substance.
