Mendel Took pea plant for his crosses

because-

1. Pea plant(pisum sativum) can have many generations in a short period of time, which can ensure longer observations.

2. Garden Pea is self-pollinating which ensures faster reproduction.

3. It has many Distinct features dark violet and white flowers, round and wrinkled seeds ,tall and short etc.

Mendel took advantage of this property to produce true-breeding pea lines: he self-fertilized and selected peas for many generations until he got lines that consistently made offspring identical to the parent (e.g., always short). Pea plants are also easy to cross, or mate in a controlled way.
