Why mercury is a liquid

Explanation:
Mercury is an unusual and only metal that is liquid at room temperature and pressure due to that fact that it is terrible at sharing electrons. The electrons in mercury atom usually are bound to the nucleus more tightly thus exhibit relativistic effects. It takes little time to overcome the weak binding between mercury atoms; therefore because of the behaviour of the valence electrons, the metal is liquid with low boiling and melting points and is a poor thermal & electrical conductor.
