Why mercury is used in thermometer??

It is because of the following reasons:

1. It is the only metal that is foundin liquid state which is a good conductor of heat.

2. It does not stick to  the capilary tube.

3. It has the uniform rate of expansion and contraction.

4. It can be easily obtained in pure form.

5. Its specific heat is low .

the mercury is used in thermometer because it has high coefficient of expansion. the slightest change in temperature is notable when its used in a thermometer.
