Mercury is used in thermometer because mercury have vary low melting point so that it can respons in small change In temperature. Hence it is chosen for thermometer because it can response in small of temperature.

Why is mercury used in the Thermometers ?
○ It is the only metal which is in it's liquid state even at the room temperature.
○ It has a high coeffient of expansion.
○ It has a high boiling point. So, it gives very accurate readings even when measuring the high temperatures.
○ It's a good conductor of the heat. And so, it reacts very quickly to the changes in the temperatures.
○ We can read it very accurately.
○ It doesn't make the glass of the thermometer wet.
