Mercury is used in thermometers because of following two reasons : -

1. It has high boiling point and it stays in liquid state at room temperature, so it can measure very high temperatures

2. Coefficient of Expansion of Mercury is high. This is helpful to note even the slight change in thermometer reading.

Mercury is used in \bold{thermometers} because:

1) It \bold{does\:not} stick to the glass tube.

2) It \bold{expands} on providing heat to it.

3) It has \bold{lower} freezing point and higher boiling point.
