Meristematic tissues have the ability to regenerate and grow. The meristematic cell can divide themselves. So they do not need vacuole but require nucleus and thus lack vacuoles. Whereas in sclerenchymatous tissues, no growth or division take place.

Meristematic tissues are the ones which take care of our growth and development...so therefore they need a large and prominent nucleus to quicken and increase the pace and number of cell divisions as nucleus contains chromosomes which are responsible for cell division
