Alloys are made by mixing two or more metals, or a metal and a non-metal. The properties of alloys are different from that of combining metals. Materials that can be used for making bells should be sonorous i.e. they will produce a ringing sound on being struck. Materials that can be used for making stringed instruments should be hard and ductile i.e. they can be drawn into thin wires. Alloys have improved and unique property of hardness and sonorosity. Also , alloys have excellent ductility. Therefore metal alloys are used for making bells and strings of instruments. For example: bronze is used for making bells and stringed instruments.
