The dwarf wheat varieties brought from Mexico into India

Because the dwarf Wheats, have stiffer and shorter straw, and photo-insensitive and were capable of giving high yields at high doses of fertilisers, irrigation and other inputs.

During the mid-1960s, the Indian subcontinent was at war and experienced minor famine and starvation, which was limited partially by the U.S. shipping a fifth of its wheat production to India in 1966 & 1967.

During that period Govt of India under , then Minister of Agriculture          Mr. C. Subramaniam undertook to bring  " Dr. Norman Ernest Borlaug known as the “Father of Green Revolution” of Mexico in liaison with Rockefeller Foundation and in 1963,imported 100 kg of Seed each (sonora 64,sonora 63 and lerma roja ) through the help of Rockefeller Foundation

Mexican wheat was developed in International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center -CIMMYT  (Mexico) by  Dr. Norman
