Why mg+2 is similar than o-2 ion although both have same electronic configuration?

because in mg 2+ electrons are removed and thus overall effective nuclear charge increases but in o2- electrons are gained and thus overall effective nuclear charge decreses .....
we know more the effective nuclear charge smaller is the ion or atom thus mg 2+ is smaller than o2-
we know more the effective nuclear charge smaller is the ion or atom thus mg 2+ is smaller than o2-
