In order to coagulate, there must be more ions. There will be two ions when KCl dissociates (K⁺ and Cl⁻). But there will be three ions when MgCl₂ dissociates (Mg²⁺ and 2Cl⁻), also, there will be more charge on Mg (Mg²⁺) than when KCl dissociates.
