When soap is added to water, micelle formation takes place, this is because the hydrocarbon chains of soap molecules are hydrophobic while the ionic ends are hydrophilic and hence soluble in water. ... It will form in such type of solvent where soap is insoluble in that particular solvent.....

Micelles have the hydrophobic tails clustered together in the center (away from the water), and the hydrophilic ionic ends are on the outside, and are solvated by the water molecules. ... Soap molecules have problems in hard water. Hard water contains minerals in the form of salts, for example that from the SALT RIVER!!
