Well, for starters, most life on Earth isbacterial. Bacteria do most of the photosynthesis on Earth, particularly in the oceans, fixing CO2 and producing oxygen. In fact, bacteria produced in the past most of the oxygen in the atmosphere, allowing the evolution of aerobic organisms, this is, all macroscopic life forms. Bacteria do a large part of nitrification, or turning atmospheric nitrogen into nitrates in the soil, where it can be used by plants. Bacteria are decomposers in the soil, sediments and water, breaking down macromolecules into useful smaller molecules that can be used by other organisms.
