Mitochondria are tiny cell organelles found inside a cell that are responsible for releasing energy from pyruvic acid in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of cell which releases energy for different metabolic activities inside a cell. This process is known as cellular respiration. Thus, mitochondria is known as the powerhouse of the cell.
