why mitochondria is not a cell itself?

Mitochondria is not a cell, it is an organelle.Mitochondria is also called a cell within a cellbecause it has some features and characteristics of cell itself.. and mitochondria has its own DNA.........

shambhawi2: bt it should be a cell itself as it has its own dna and energy generating system
chand36: for mitochondria is also having a some fault .......as well as it having own cell and energy system but its not a cell itself....
