why MN is diamagnetic in MNO4 and paramagnetic in MNO4 --

As a d1 ion,MnO42- has an unpaired e- and hence is paramagnetic and MnO4- has d2 in the outer most configuration and hence is diamagnetic (has no unpaired e- on outermost shell).
