The sting of ants contains formic acid. Any acid can be neutralised by adding a base. Baking soda is a base and is capable of reversing the pain, itching and swelling caused by a bee sting.

When an ant bites, it injects formic acid in our body, which results in intense skin itching and irritation.
So to reduce or stop this pain or discomfort we use a base which is backing soda on the skin on which the ant bite.
The backing soda neutralizes the effect of the acid as acids react with bases to neutralize and form salt and water. This helps to reduce the irritation.
