Why moisture content on wet basis is less than dry basis?

The conversion of percentage moisture on a wet basis to a dry basisis calculated with the formula , where is the moisture content on a dry basis in g /100 g dry matter and is the moisture content on a wet basis, that is, g /100 g total mass.
