Basically, there are two reasons for moon not to have an atmosphere as dense as we have on earth.

▪It is due to its lower mass so that its gravity is much lower to hold gases close to its surfaces.

▪Secondly, there is no earthquake like activity so that bigger rocks are broken into smaller ones and the gases emit out to form atmosphere.

▪It is now known that moon has some unusual gases like sodium and potassium in its atmosphere, of course, search for water vapor is on.
